About Lauren Pickel
Hello! I am Lauren Pickel, an undergraduate junior at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. After my undergrad, I hope to obtain a Master of Library Science degree, with the ultimate goal of becoming a public or school librarian and an author/writer. Currently, I work as a Business Enablement Solutions Intern for McGraw Hill and a Reference Assistant for the Cooperative Children’s Book Center. These work opportunities have allowed me to gain experience with the corporate publishing industry, interpersonal relationships, organizational tasks, and leadership skills.
I have a fierce passion for the creative arts, specifically activities like reading, writing, dancing, painting, and fashion. On any day, you’ll find me performing my dances for others or testing out different styles of clothing. Outside of my education and hobbies, I volunteer with different organizations like Care For A Cause and Illumination Journal. In my work, whether it be academic or professional, I am incredibly thorough and remain consistent in my leadership and performance abilities.
What I've Been Up To

OPTIMA DANCE SHOWCASE: FALL 2024
At the end of the Fall 2024 semester, Optima had its biannual showcase of around 40 student - choreographed dance pieces. I was a part of three of those dances and will be involved in six during our upcoming showcase for the Spring 2025 semester. My main style of dance is hip-hop, though I've also danced in musical theater and jazz pieces.

DAY AT THE OFFICE
I was able to visit the McGraw Hill office for my internship. The internship works remotely, so interns are hired from around the entire United States. It was lovely to be able to go in and see the physical office space, as well as meet with some of the employees there. Excitingly, I will be continuing my internship with the company for this upcoming summer.
